The CTI-CFF Regional Secretariat recently visited Port Moresby in Papua New Guinea with a mission to strengthen the working relationship between the National CTI-CFF Coordinating Committee of Papua New Guinea and the CTI-CFF Regional Secretariat. The Regional Secretariat’s team was represented by its Executive Director, Dr. Widi A. Pratikto, and Mr. Cepy Syahda, CTI-CFF Head of Finance and Administration, from 18th to 20th July 2016.

Maritime LGN 1st General Assembly

The 1st General Assembly meeting was held in Patuno Resort, Wakatobi, Southeast Sulawesi, on June 2–4, 2016 and was attended by delegates from Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, and a number of regencies from Indonesia. Malaysia was unable to join the meeting due to official commitments and unforeseen circumstances, as well as the Philippines and Timor-Leste. The event was supported by the local Government of Wakatobi, USAID/USDOI, CTI-CFF Regional Secretariat, and partners (CTC, TNC, WWF, RARE, and UCLG-ASPAC).

The CTI-CFF Regional Secretariat (RS), accompanied by the Conservation and Environment Protection Authority (CEPA) of Papua New Guinea and NCC CTI-CFF PNG, paid a courtesy visit to the Indonesian Embassy in Port Moresby.

H.E. Ambassador Ronald Manik of Indonesia to PNG warmly welcomed the distinguished guests.

A Formal Meeting between Regional Secretariat of CTI-CFF and the National Fisheries Authority (NFA) of PNG

Mr. John Edward Kasu, Managing Director of NFA, led a formal meeting with the Regional Secretariat of CTI-CFF represented by Widi A. Pratikto, Ph.D., Executive Director of CTI-CFF, to discuss issues related to fisheries in PNG and the Coral Triangle region.

RS CTI-CFF & ACIAR Meeting

In an effort to build a possible strategic alliance with a development partner in PNG, CTI-CFF is exploring cooperation with ACIAR (Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research), which manages several projects in PNG.

Emily Flowers, Country Director of ACIAR, shared knowledge and experiences with Widi A. Pratikto, Ph.D., Executive Director of CTI-CFF.

The meeting was also a follow-up to a previous discussion on a long-term cooperation plan between CTI-CFF and James Cook University Australia in Indonesia.

The Sulu-Sulawesi Marine Eco-region (SSME) or Sulu-Sulawesi Seascape is located in the western Indo-Pacific region at the apex of the Coral Triangle covering 1 million km² of marine and terrestrial areas in Indonesia (North Sulawesi and East and North Kalimantan), Malaysia (Sabah) and the Philippines. The Coral Triangle Initiative on Coral Reefs, Fisheries and Food Security (CTI-CFF) recognizes the Sulu-Sulawesi Seascape as one of its priority seascapes.
