In April 2009, award-winning photographers Jürgen Freund and Stella-Chiu Freund embarked on an 18-month expedition across the Coral Triangle, visiting bustling centers of marine trade as well as some of the most remote and breathtaking habitats on earth. The results of this grueling but unforgettable journey, the first of its kind, are being published by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in the book The Coral Triangle.

Shangri-La’s Tanjung Aru Resort and Spa is working to conserve dugongs and their habitat through collaboration with the communities of the proposed Tun Mustapha Park in northern Sabah.

The initial collaboration is with the community of Berungus, Pitas, and it was recognized this week at the Second Coral Triangle Initiative Regional Business Forum in Kuala Lumpur.

This initiative supports fisheries management and dugong habitat conservation by the Berungus community residing within the boundaries of the proposed Tun Mustapha Park.

The 7th Senior Officials Meeting of the Coral Triangle Initiative met on 24-26 October 2011 in Jakarta, Indonesia.

The SOM7 addressed a number of goals, ranging from establishing a permanent Regional Secretariat to reviewing and giving guidance on Monitoring and Evaluation schemes.

Participants included CT6 government officials, the six CTI partner organizations and agencies, the Regional Secretariat, and a number of observer organizations.

An innovative program allows travelers to book flights through a system that calculates the carbon emissions of their requested flight and creates a donation to a climate change adaptation program in partnership with the World Wildlife Fund (WWF).

The third CTI-CFF Ministerial Meeting met in Jakarta, Indonesia on October 28, 2011.

Ministers addressed a number of goals, including seeking an agreement on legal documents regarding the establishment of a permanent Regional Secretariat; Reviewing the Annual Report and State of the Coral Triangle report; and providing direction toward the achievement of the nine regional priority actions and the establishment of thematic/cross-cutting issues working groups.
