A recent peer-reviewed study estimated that about 100 million sharks are fished every year to satisfy a market for their fins, meat, and liver oil. More than half of shark species and their relatives are categorized as threatened or near threatened with extinction.

The Coral Triangle Women Leaders' Forum (WLF) is proud to announce our new Co-Chair, Ms. Laura Whitford from The Nature Conservancy!

Laura Whitford is the Director of Marine Strategies and Partnerships for The Nature Conservancy's Asia Pacific Program. She has worked on international environment and climate change issues for over 14 years, focusing primarily on policy and government relations in support of conservation initiatives across the Asia-Pacific region.

As a follow-up activity for the renewal of the CTI-CFF Regional Plan of Action (RPOA 2.0), the CTI-CFF gathered financial experts from the CT6 member countries, international financial institutions, and organizations advocating marine and environmental conservation for a two-day Financial Resource Strategy Expert Workshop.

The workshop aimed to share relevant expertise to draft a resource mobilization plan in support of the RPOA 2.0, as well as to compile recommendations for a sustainable finance mechanism.
