A new set of user-friendly guidebooks for designing local marine protected areas is now available for practitioners in Coral Triangle countries. Entitled Designing Effective Locally Managed Areas in Tropical Marine Environments: A Guide Set to Help Sustain Community Benefits Through Management for Fisheries, Ecosystems, and Climate Change, the three-part guide consists of an 18-page laminated flipchart, a facilitator's guide, and booklets for community members.

The guide has been developed for facilitators leading community-based activities to raise awareness, plan, and design effective and resilient locally managed areas (LMAs) and LMA networks. Lead facilitators and organizers can use the facilitator's guide, which provides detailed instructions for outreach activities and specific steps for zoning and rule development. When visiting communities, they carry the booklets to distribute to participants, which include illustrations, key messages, and recommendations for zoning and rules.

The full guide set, available in English and Indonesian, can be downloaded from the Resources section of the CTI-CFF website: www.coraltriangleinitiative.org, under the Training Materials and Marine Protected Areas category.
