USAID Oceans-Indonesia Closeout Event

Jakarta, Indonesia, February 2020 – In the concluded USAID Oceans–Indonesia Learning Site Closeout Event in Jakarta, USAID Oceans acknowledged the continued engagement and support of the CTI-CFF.

Ms. Cristina Velez Srinivasan, Ecosystems Management & Trade Team Lead of USAID/Regional Development for Asia, presented a plaque of appreciation to Dr. Mohd Kushairi Mohd Rajuddin, Executive Director of the CTI-CFF Regional Secretariat, for CTI-CFF’s invaluable support throughout USAID’s project life cycle.

CTI-CFF and USAID Oceans have worked together in promoting the sustainable management and conservation of marine biodiversity and coastal resources in the Coral Triangle region.

CTI-CFF partnered with USAID Oceans in strengthening regional cooperation to combat illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing by promoting electronic catch documentation and traceability (eCDT) technologies and capacity building through pilot projects to achieve the objectives of the Regional Plan of Action (RPOA) Goal 2 — to fully apply an Ecosystem Approach to Fisheries Management (EAFM).

Furthermore, CTI-CFF collaborated with USAID Oceans to advance gender equity, responsiveness, and inclusion in governance and resource mobilization.

At present, CTI-CFF and USAID Oceans are finalizing the sub-regional EAFM Plan for the Sulu-Sulawesi Seascape and developing the draft eCDT Technical Guideline customized for CTI-CFF.

Dr. Kushairi expressed his gratitude for USAID Oceans’ technical and other support resulting in successful deliverables and outcomes, including fisherwomen’s empowerment and sustainable livelihoods, as part of the RPOA implementation.

“We value the significant contributions of USAID Oceans through its various projects in the Coral Triangle region and we hope to continue working with USAID Oceans as one of our strategic partners in the next phase of the CTI Regional Plan of Action,” said Dr. Kushairi.

USAID Oceans completed its activities in the Bitung Learning Site in December 2019 and conducted the closeout event to signify the transition of the project objectives to various partners for continuation.
