RS ED, New Member of ICRI’s Ad hoc Reef Restoration Committee

Dr. Mohd Kushairi Mohd Rajuddin, Executive Director of the CTI-CFF Regional Secretariat, is now a member of the International Coral Reef Initiative (ICRI)’s Ad hoc Reef Restoration Committee. This ad hoc committee on reef restoration was established in response to disturbances affecting coral reefs, particularly thermal stress-induced global mass coral bleaching events and climate projections indicating that sea temperatures will exceed the thermal tolerances of corals.

In 2021, the objectives of the Committee are as follows:

  1. Provide a coordinating mechanism for international collaboration on coral reef restoration research and development;
  2. Advocate for the use of best-practice restoration techniques and highlight examples of relevant policy and legislation as part of a broader strategy that involves traditional management and reducing carbon emissions to maintain coral reef function, structure, and resilience;
  3. Facilitate the transfer of new knowledge of restoration techniques to managers and restoration practitioners (ICRI website).
