The Regional Secretariat of CTI-CFF paid a courtesy visit to the newly elected CTI COM Chair, Hon. Regina L. Lopez of the Philippines. She replaces the former CTI-COM Chair, Hon. John Pundari MP of Papua New Guinea.

The visit is significant because the CTI COM serves as the principal decision-making body of the CTI-CFF. It is responsible for maintaining the CTI-CFF vision, promoting regional priorities, and considering, approving, or disapproving decisions of the CTI Committee of Senior Officials (CTI CSO) regarding proposals, recommendations, plans, programs, projects, and activities of the Regional Secretariat, among other functions.

During the visit, several key agendas were discussed, including:

  • Appointment of the Deputy Executive Director
  • Confirmation of the 13th Senior Officials’ Meeting (SOM) in the Philippines
  • The role and participation of the Philippines in CTI-CFF activities
  • UN recognition of CTI-CFF as an Expert Group Meeting member for the High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) on Sustainable Development
  • New cooperation engagements with various organizations and bodies on conservation and fisheries, including SEAFDEC, SPREP, GIZ, PEMSEA, GIZ for the Sulu Sulawesi Seas Programme (formerly SSME), and CMAR (Corridor Marine Region)
