RS and WWF Conduct CTI-CFF Plastic Stocktake Webinar

The Regional Secretariat and WWF conducted a webinar on assessing marine plastic pollution in the Coral Triangle Region on 19 October 2020. Ms. Jackie Thomas of WWF highlighted the importance of conducting a marine plastic stocktake in the Coral Triangle region and presented the draft Terms of Reference and its implementation.

Dr. Mohd Kushairi Mohd Rajuddin, Executive Director of the CTI-CFF Regional Secretariat, expressed hope that through the webinar, CT6 member countries would be motivated to address the sources of plastic pollution (both land-based and shipping-based), imports and exports of plastic waste, and their flows. He emphasized that alternatives to plastic should be promoted through research, development, and innovation. He also noted that transboundary movements of plastic waste should be subject to stricter controls.

The webinar was attended by participants from all CT6 member countries.
