Following the signing of the Term of Employment and Employee Agreement in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, on 24 March 2015, Prof. Widi Pratikto was officially appointed as Executive Director (ED) of the CTI-CFF Regional Secretariat. He began leading the Secretariat on 1 April 2015 and will serve in this role for the next four years.

An Ocean Engineer by training, Prof. Pratikto is a recognized leader in coastal and marine protection and regional ocean development. He is a University Professor in Ocean Engineering at Surabaya Institute of Technology (ITS), Indonesia, and earned his Ph.D. from North Carolina State University, USA. Prof. Pratikto has held senior positions in the Indonesian government and was appointed by the President of Indonesia as Secretary General of D8, a multilateral organization addressing food security, trade, industry, logistics, and energy, based in Istanbul.

HE Hon. John Pundari, CMG, MP, the Minister of Environment, Conservation, and Climate Change of Papua New Guinea and Chair of the CTI-CFF Council of Ministers, expressed his support for Prof. Pratikto's appointment in his announcement letter. “With his exceptional experience and background, I believe Prof. Pratikto is more than capable of performing his duties as the Chief Administrative Officer of the Regional Secretariat. I have no doubt that under his solid leadership, the CTI-CFF Regional Secretariat will succeed in achieving its mission,” he said.

As Executive Director, Prof. Pratikto is responsible for providing strategic leadership and management of the Secretariat, including representing the CTI-CFF regionally and internationally, establishing strategic partnerships and networks, and guiding policy development on relevant regional issues.

The signing ceremony, held at Papua New Guinea’s Department of Environment, Conservation, and Climate Change, concluded a year-long selection process for the Executive Director position. The event also followed a decision made during the 10th Senior Officials Meeting regarding the ED appointment. The ceremony was attended and witnessed by Dr. Arwandrija Rukma from the Regional Secretariat, Mr. Gunther Joku, Chair of the CTI-CFF Committee of Senior Officials, Ms. Kay Kumaras, PNG NCC Focal Point, and HE Ronald Manik, Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to PNG.
