The CTI-CFF Regional Secretariat, together with the CTI National Coordinating Committees and partner organizations, is set to launch the first annual celebration of Coral Triangle Day on June 9, 2012, in conjunction with World Oceans Day. This year’s theme is “Shared Waters, Shared Solutions: Coming Together as One for the World's Centre of Marine Life—The Coral Triangle.”
The event is envisioned as an annual, open-sourced activity that brings together individuals, organizations, the private sector, and governments to highlight ocean conservation and promote ways to protect the Coral Triangle. Organizations wishing to celebrate Coral Triangle Day can organize various activities, including but not limited to: beach clean-ups, sustainable seafood dinners and exhibitions, bazaars, and beach parties—all carrying the message of ocean conservation under the overall banner of Coral Triangle Day.
This event aims to build a critical mass of supporters for the Coral Triangle at the individual, organizational, corporate, and government levels, using fun and engaging ways for people in the region to take action. All activities on the day will be featured on www.coraltriangleinitiative.org/day and other collaborating websites to create a truly regional community of Coral Triangle supporters.
