The CTI-CFF Regional Secretariat supported the 2nd Learning Exchange Workshop for Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) of Southeast Asia and the Atlantic, held in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia, from 12–14 October 2022. The workshop, part of the EU-funded Ocean Governance Project, aimed to promote and strengthen networking and partnerships among MPA managers in both regions. It was organized by WWF-Malaysia, Sabah Parks, and the Sabah Tourism Board.

Mr. Gustaaf Lumiu, Deputy Executive Director for Corporate Services, representing the Executive Director of the CTI-CFF Regional Secretariat, Dr. Moh. Kushairi bin Moh. Rajuddin, stated in his welcoming remarks that learning exchanges among the parks are crucial to enhancing efforts toward marine conservation and sustainable development of the marine sector, both regionally and globally. Strong networking among MPAs will help achieve Goal 3 of the CTI-CFF RPOA: a Region-Wide Coral Triangle Marine Protected Area System (CTMPAS) that is fully functional.
The Regional Secretariat expects that CTI-CFF will continue to demonstrate effective management of marine protected areas in the region, which will improve livelihoods, enhance social security, and contribute to higher economic productivity and more efficient governance of marine resources.
