This half-day event, which will be held at Crowne Plaza Hotel In Manila on Sept 18, 2012 will feature a special key note presentation by one of the world’s leading experts and pioneers in Payment for Ecosystem Services (PES) - Mr. Carlos Rodrigiez. Formerly, Minister of Environment and Energy of Costa Rica, Mr Rodriguez’s groundbreaking strategies and visionary efforts helped transform Costa Rica’s troubled economy into one of the strongest in Central America, while nurturing the country’s unique ecosystems. Rodriguez was also a key player in the establishment of a multinational marine park—Las Baulas National Marine Park—and international efforts to eliminate bottom trawling and other unsustainable fishing practices
The event is being organized by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) with support from Conservation International (CI) and the Global Environment Facility (GEF). The session is designed to: provide a platform for sharing lessons on international good practice in PES, as well as a space for conversations and dialogue how to “making PES work in the Philippines”.
