Coral Triangle Leaders to Meet in Manila for Local Government Network Forum

The CTI-CFF will hold a Local Government Network Forum on December 3-7, 2012 in Manila, Philippines to highlight the success and strengthen the alliance of local leaders who are championing marine conservation and coastal management activities in the Coral Triangle.

The CTI Local Government Network was launched in May 2011 by a group of enthusiastic mayors and local leaders from across the Coral Triangle to promote cooperation between local governments.  The network which aims to give greater voice to those at the front lines of marine and coastal resources management has been growing steadily ever since.

Those attending the Forum will also participate in the pilot launch of the CTI Executive Course for Local Government Leaders - an innovative course designed to enhance the capacity of local government leaders and members of the CTI Local Government Network in promoting local actions that support marine resource conservation and management using the tools and structures developed by the CTI. By attending the forum and participating in the course, local government leaders in the Coral Triangle will:

  •  Learn critical information and the latest data on the state of marine and coastal resources in the Coral Triangle.
  • Gain a deeper understanding of marine conservation and sustainability issues by identifying critical threats that are happening in their localities.
  • Learn about a wide array of case studies that highlight coastal and marine resource management good practices.
  • Analyze and identify the appropriate management intervention and tools needed to address the threats in their constituencies.
  • Learn how to formulate their own marine and coastal management projects including budgeting and policy instruments.
  • Learn how to form alliances and integrate local actions with ongoing regional and national initiatives under the CTI framework
