Indonesia, June 2020 – The month-long celebration of #CoralTriangleDay continues.

The CTI-CFF Regional Secretariat conducted a webinar recognizing and showcasing women who are leading marine conservation and the sustainable use of Coral Triangle resources.

Sharing their expertise and experiences were Dr. Arlene Satapornvanit from the Gender in Aquaculture and Fisheries Section, Asia Fisheries Society; Ms. Fenny Wong Nyuk Yun from Malaysia’s Ministry of Environment and Water; Ms. Ruth Konia from The Nature Conservancy Papua New Guinea; Ms. Chelcia Gomese from WorldFish Solomon Islands; and Ms. Alda Sousa Lemos da Rosa from Timor-Leste’s Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries.

In his welcome remarks, Dr. Mohd Kushairi Mohd Rajuddin, Executive Director of the CTI-CFF Regional Secretariat, noted that CTI-CFF’s Women Leaders’ Forum (WLF) Working Group has been very active in the field of marine conservation for about a decade in the Coral Triangle region. He highlighted that last year, WLF successfully produced a Competency Model, resources, and modules for the training of women in marine conservation applicable within the Coral Triangle and globally.

The WLF has also developed a new roadmap to be integrated with the draft RPOA 2.0 and has ambitious plans for the coming years. The forum is in the process of engaging a Gender Equity and Social Inclusiveness (GESI) consultant to assist CTI-CFF in implementing GESI by 2021.

The webinar was conducted on June 18, 2020, and streamed live on the CTI-CFF Facebook page.
