Partnership in Building Community Resilience on Disaster in the Region of Coral Triangle: Indonesian Case*

Abstract

Indonesia is located in the area known as the "Ring of Fire," making coastal vulnerability very high.

Due to its location, Indonesia faces possible disasters including earthquakes and tsunamis, floods, hurricanes and storms, climate change and sea level rise (SLR), among others.

Since most coastal areas are densely inhabited (approximately 145 million people) and prone to potential disasters, it is necessary to increase the capacity of coastal communities.

Capacity building for communities enhances their ability to cope with coastal hazards and disasters. This paper explains how to build community resilience to reduce the risks and impacts of potential disasters.
