On January 16-17, 2013, over 50 representatives from the Coral Triangle Initiative on Coral Reefs, Fisheries and Food Security (CTI-CFF) Interim Regional Secretariat, official CTI partners, and prospective new donors met in Sanur, Indonesia, for a Partner Coordination Meeting. The purpose was to identify needs and garner commitments to maintain the forward momentum of the Initiative. Recognizing that USAID’s five-year, $42 million US Coral Triangle Initiative Support Program will end in September 2013, participants identified key priorities to ensure the establishment of the permanent Secretariat and advancement of regional and national Plan of Action goals.
Key priorities include providing staffing support for the Secretariat and CTI-CFF National Coordinating Committees, engaging new donors, and continuing collaboration among partners such as the Government of Australia, the Asian Development Bank, the World Wildlife Fund, Conservation International, and The Nature Conservancy. Outcomes of the meeting included commitments from individual partners to provide leadership and resources to each CTI-CFF Technical Working Group, extend staffing support to the Secretariat, and the expression of interest by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) to formally engage with the CTI-CFF.
