CTI-CFF REGIONAL SECRETARIAT ANNOUNCES NEW LEADERSHIP AND CORAL TRIANGLE DAY 2024

Manado, 31/5 – The Coral Triangle Initiative on Coral Reefs, Fisheries, and Food Security (CTI-CFF) Regional Secretariat is proud to announce the appointment of their new Executive Director and the new Deputy Executive Director for Corporate Services. In conjunction with this leadership change, the CTI-CFF is excited to unveil the plans for Coral Triangle Day 2024, in collaboration with the Indonesian government, the provincial government of North Sulawesi, and the Blue Institute.
New Leadership at CTI-CFF
We are delighted to introduce Dr. Frank Keith Griffin as the Executive Director and Hanung Cahyono as the Deputy Executive Director for Corporate Services. Their combined expertise and vision will undoubtedly propel the CTI-CFF's mission to new heights, fostering sustainable practices and partnerships across the Coral Triangle region. Under their leadership and with the cooperation of the staff, the Regional Secretariat will endeavor to work closely with our member countries and key partners in realizing the objectives and goals of the Coral Triangle Initiative.
Coral Triangle Day 2024 Celebrations
The CTI-CFF, in partnership with the government of Indonesia, the provincial government of North Sulawesi, and the Blue Institute, is thrilled to announce a series of events to celebrate Coral Triangle Day 2024. These events aim to raise awareness about balancing marine conservation efforts with the Blue Economy and engage the local community in meaningful activities.
“ILoveCoralTriangle” Edutainment Event in Manado
On June 1–2, 2024, Manado Town Square 3 will host a vibrant public edutainment event featuring coloring, drawing, poster, and singing competitions designed to educate and inspire young minds about coral reef conservation and marine biodiversity. This event will exhibit 40 of the best underwater photos captured from the Coral Triangle Day Underwater Photo Competition held on May 26, 2024, in Bunaken.
Beach Clean-Up Activity
We invite the people of North Sulawesi to join a community beach clean-up activity on June 7, 2024, organized in Tuminting (Manado City), Tateli (Minahasa), and Likupang (North Minahasa). This initiative is supported by the provincial government of North Sulawesi, the Mayor of Manado City, and the district governments of Minahasa and North Minahasa. We warmly welcome the people of Manado to participate in this important environmental event.
Seminar on Women’s Role in Fisheries
Highlighting the crucial role of women in fisheries, a seminar will be conducted on June 5, 2024, to celebrate and recognize their contributions. The Minister of Women Empowerment and Child Protection of Indonesia will serve as keynote speaker, providing support and recognition to women fishers in North Sulawesi and helping them access government assistance.
High-Level Forum on Blue Natural Capital
On June 8, 2024, a High-Level Forum on Blue Natural Capital will bring together experts, policymakers, and stakeholders to discuss sustainable investment and financing strategies for protecting and enhancing marine ecosystems. The event is organized in collaboration with the Blue Institute of Seychelles with support from the CTI-CFF Regional Secretariat.
International Seminar on Life Below Water (SDG 14)
An International Seminar on Life Below Water (SDG 14) will take place on June 10, 2024, at Sam Ratulangi University, featuring distinguished speakers from CTI-CFF University Partnership members across six countries. This seminar aims to exchange information and updates on marine science research and innovations.
CTI-CFF 15th Anniversary Celebration – June 11–12, 2024
The culmination of Coral Triangle Day 2024 will be a grand celebration on June 11–12, 2024, at the CTI Center in Kairagi, Manado, commemorating 15 years of partnership among the six Coral Triangle countries. The event will feature a bazaar of marine products from small and medium enterprises and will be attended by the Vice President of Indonesia, the Coordinating Minister of Maritime and Investment, the Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, and the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy.
