CTI-CFF Leaders’ Summit 2009 in Manado, Indonesia

Jakarta, Indonesia, February 2020 – Indonesia’s Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment organized an initial meeting to discuss the possible venue for the 2nd CTI-CFF Leaders’ Summit. Present at the meeting were representatives from Indonesia’s CTI National Coordinating Committee, while the CTI-CFF Regional Secretariat was represented by Deputy Executive Directors Mr. Gustaaf Lumiu and Dr. Sharifah Nora Ibrahim.

During the meeting, the Regional Secretariat (RS) shared two proposed venues for the upcoming Leaders’ Summit — the Archipelagic and Island States Forum in Bali, Indonesia, and the 15th Meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP15) to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) in Kunming, China. RS noted that final decisions from the six Coral Triangle member countries are awaited before coordination and preparations can begin with the selected event’s Secretariat. The RS also presented the proposed roadmap for the Leaders’ Summit, along with the estimated budget requirements for each venue.

The 2nd CTI-CFF Leaders’ Summit will serve as the venue to launch the renewed CTI-CFF Regional Plan of Action (RPOA 2.0). Through the Leaders’ Declaration, the Summit aims to renew the commitment, pledges, and trust of the six member countries’ leaders. Additionally, the event will feature the signing of the new Host Country Agreement and highlight the 10-year accomplishments of the CTI-CFF.

The 1st CTI Leaders’ Summit was held on 15 May 2009 in Manado, Indonesia, where the CTI-CFF was officially launched through the signing of the Leaders’ Declaration and the adoption of the first 10-year Regional Plan of Action.
