(March 26, 2014) CTI-CFF Partners are rolling out plans for a region-wide campaign to celebrate Coral Triangle Day (CT Day) in just over two months.

First held on June 9, 2012, CT Day was officially recognized by CTI-CFF at their 4th Ministerial Meeting in Putrajaya, Malaysia, in November 2012. This recognition helped raise the profile of CT Day as a regional event. As a result, on June 9, 2013, CTI-CFF Partners recorded remarkable participation, with more than 30,000 people involved in over 60 activities across the region.

The CTI-CFF National Coordination Committees (NCCs) played a key role in mobilizing audiences throughout the region for last year’s CT Day celebrations. This year, they are encouraged to organize activities around the theme “Protect the Coral Triangle, Provide More Fish for the World”, along with NGOs, civic groups, and individuals who wish to contribute to raising awareness and advocating for the Coral Triangle.

Partners aim to engage even more participants through information and social media, emphasizing that CT Day is an “open-sourced event”—owned by no one and involving everyone. Initial preparatory conference calls have been held, involving the IRS, Partners, and communications personnel within the CTI-CFF family, to set CT Day activities into motion.
