FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Bali, Indonesia – Award-winning culinary sensation Bobby Chinn joins the region in celebrating Coral Triangle Day on 9 June 2012 by preparing sumptuous dishes using responsibly-caught seafood in selected restaurants across Bali.

“The Coral Triangle Day is about celebrating the wonders of our oceans and what individuals can do to help protect it. As a chef, I want to do my part by raising awareness on the importance of patronizing responsibly-caught seafood and the many creative ways to enjoy it,” said Bobby Chinn.

Overfishing and destructive fishing are among the most pressing challenges facing the Coral Triangle—the world’s center of marine biodiversity.

The Coral Triangle spans the seas of six Asia-Pacific countries: Indonesia, Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, the Philippines, Solomon Islands, and Timor-Leste. It contains more than 3,000 species of reef fish and serves as a nursery ground and migratory pathway for commercially valuable tuna species such as Yellowfin, Bigeye, and Skipjack, producing almost a fifth of the global tuna catch.

However, overfishing and destructive fishing practices pose major challenges to the sustainability of these resources, which support the food and livelihoods of over 120 million people. Growing demand for seafood in Asia, North America, and Europe is further depleting fish stocks and impacting fragile marine ecosystems.

“Fish are being taken out of the seas faster than they can be replenished, and often using destructive methods. This is why we need to be conscious of the seafood on our plates and ask where it came from and how it was caught,” Chinn added.

“I am proud to be part of Coral Triangle Day so we can highlight the importance of oceans in our daily lives and take action to conserve them,” he continued.

Bobby Chinn will make special appearances and do cooking demonstrations at selected restaurants in Seminyak, including Gado Gado Restaurant and Metis Restaurant, in Uluwatu at the Semara Luxury Villa Resort, as well as at local village restaurants in Kedonganan Village, Jimbaran Bay.

The TV host and restaurateur will prepare mouth-watering dishes using responsibly-sourced seafood such as grouper, prawns, tuna, and other locally-sourced ingredients.
