CTI-CFF Interim Regional Secretariat Coordinator Dr. Darmawan talks to WWF about what happens inside this multi-country, multi-stakeholder initiative.
Excerpts from the interview
Q: What is the role of the CTI-CFF Interim Secretariat in the implementation of the CTI-CFF?
The CTI-CFF Interim Regional Secretariat is the main body that manages, coordinates, and supports official meetings and events implemented under the CTI-CFF Regional Plan of Action Roadmap. These include the annual high-level CTI-CFF Senior Officials Meeting and Ministerial Meetings, as well as the periodic meetings and workshops organized by the CTI-CFF Working Groups.
The CTI-CFF Interim Regional Secretariat also provides technical and coordination support to the CTI National Coordinating Committees in each of the six Coral Triangle countries—Indonesia, Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, the Philippines, Solomon Islands, and Timor-Leste—on emerging opportunities and priorities related to achieving the goals and targets of the CTI-CFF Regional and National Plans of Action.
Serving as an information and networking hub, the Secretariat connects those working to advance the CTI-CFF’s goals, including development partners, donors, non-governmental organizations, local governments, academia, and other stakeholders. It also manages the CTI-CFF website and represents the initiative in the media and various international forums, such as the Rio+20 Earth Summit in Brazil and the 12th International Coral Reef Symposium in Australia.
The CTI-CFF Interim Regional Secretariat is currently hosted by Indonesia’s Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries.
